It is a recovery dish created to not waste stale bread. In fact it derives from the need to wet old bread and season it with fresh vegetables.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1865 the Florentine statesman Bettino Ricasoli offered it to the King Vittorio Emanuele not only for its extraordinary delicacy, but also because the green of basil, the white of bread and the red of tomatoes were the colors of the newborn Kingdom of Italy.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/www.visitvaldarno.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/visitvaldarno-ricette-tradizionali-panzanella.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.7&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.6&#8243; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<br \/><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">500 grams of naturally leavened Tuscan flour bread, baked in a wood oven and stale for at least 3 or 4 days<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 ripe tomatoes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 red onion<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 cucumber<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basil<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salt<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pepper<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extra virgin olive oil<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vinegar to taste<\/span><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.6&#8243; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<p><strong>RECIPE<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cut the onion into small pieces and soak them in water, salt and vinegar.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wet the bread with cold water, vinegar and salt.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cut the vegetables, gently wash the basil and break it by hand.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put the squeezed bread in a bowl, add the vegetables, sprinkle with basil and season with extra virgin olive oil.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let it rest in the fridge and serve it on the table. <\/span><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243; module_id=&#8221;sidebar&#8221; module_class=&#8221;sidebar&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.7&#8243;][et_pb_sidebar _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.7&#8243; border_color_all=&#8221;rgba(0,0,0,0)&#8221;][\/et_pb_sidebar][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fragrant, simple and fresh, Panzanella is a poor dish of undoubt Tuscan delicacy.
